Minister Collier Visits Bentley Campus
for Main Street Project - Sod Turning Ceremony
April 19, 2016
Today marks an exciting milestone for the Greater Curtin Vision.
We were fortunate enough to welcome Minister for Education, Aboriginal Affairs and Electoral Affairs the Hon Peter Collier MLC; and our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, to the Main Street site for an official sod turning ceremony.
The Main Street Project encompasses construction of major access roads and vibrant public spaces and landscapes. Key components of the project include:
- A new Kent Street entrance, which will connect Kent Street and Hayman Road.
- The 'Main Street' - a north/south pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle shared space Boulevard.
- A slow speed pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle shared space 'lane', which will connect the Bus Interchange with the Academic Neighbourhood.
The Main Street project is due for completion early 2017 and will enable the progress of broader Stage One plans including a new bus interchange, utilisation of new academic facilities and commencement of commercial development partnerships (EOI to market late April 2016).
We understand that the Main Street Project construction has caused disruptions for many Curtin students, staff and visitors, but we’re also confident that everyone will enjoy the benefits that this new infrastructure will bring.
Over the coming months, we will be embarking on the process of naming these new roads and we'd love input from Curtin students and staff. Your opportunity to contribute will be announced here shortly.Find out more about the Main Street
