Curtin Central Bus Station Opens

Feb 12, 2019

Following an 18 month construction period, the new Curtin Central Bus Station was opened today by the Hon Rita Saffioti MLA, WA Minister for Transport and Curtin’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry.

The joint project between Curtin and the Public Transport Authority will create a regional hub to improve connectivity for students, staff and the community. The facility sits in the heart of the Greater Curtin Stage One development site – an area that will soon be a vibrant innovation precinct featuring student and short stay accommodation, commercial space, retail and leisure options.

Curtin Central has been designed based on the principles of a Transit Oriented Development, in alignment with Curtin’s Green Star – Communities commitment, with the intent of establishing a beautiful, user friendly, safe and sustainable transport hub. The design, which includes the bus interchange in addition to landscaping, enabling infrastructure and ‘Pine Plaza’ integrates Curtin’s public spaces with transport zones thereby increasing campus accessibility and supporting the liveability of the precinct in coming years.

From February 17, routes 30, 33, 34, 101, 284 and 960 will depart from Curtin Central Bus Station.

Initially 944 scheduled trips will be operating in and out of Curtin Central on a typical weekday, in addition to the existing services from the Hayman Road facility.
