The rating, first awarded in 2015 and elevated from 5 to 6 Stars in 2020, reflects Curtin’s commitment to building a sustainable, liveable and innovative campus community through the Greater Curtin Master Plan.
Key initiatives supporting the recertification include the delivery of five Green Star-certified buildings – notably B418 School of Design & Built Environment and refurbishment of B105 T.L. Robertson Library – along with new active transport facilities and expanded food and dining options within the Exchange precinct.
Cultural initiatives such as the Yarning Circle and the Indigenous Cultural Capabilities Framework have further enhanced campus liveability, embedding community, heritage and identity at the heart of Curtin’s spaces. Innovation has also been a key driver, with improvements in disability access, upgraded library facilities including a Changing Place and Resting Room, and the introduction of smart precinct metering to support more sustainable operations.
Looking ahead, Curtin will continue to build on this success through projects such as a new Biodiversity Management Plan and the creation of a campus sustainability trail featuring four bird watering towers. These initiatives will not only strengthen Curtin’s position in future Green Star assessments, but also continue to shape a vibrant, world-class campus for students, staff and the wider community.
