The Greater Curtin Master Plan will see significant development to the Perth campus including the construction of new roads. We are now at the point where we are able to explore and propose the naming convention for our roads moving forward.

Road naming conventions are traditionally inspired by individuals who have made significant contribution to the community, indigenous languages or place themes. To date, sources of Curtin geographical names have largely been "pioneers of the State or citizens who have made a significant community contribution".

The Greater Curtin development offers the opportunity to define the Curtin Geographical Naming Convention. The proposed nomenclature direction is:

  1. Roads are named strictly following theme determined by 'place'.
  2. Social spaces, buildings, paths, topographic features are named using either: indigenous languages, individuals who have contributed to the community significantly, or a place theme (where appropriate) following local elder and broader Curtin community consultation.

The spirit of Greater Curtin as a 'Place' is the theme that is currently being proposed for road naming. Innovation, knowledge, optimism, courage, energy and community are the key attributes that define the 'Place' within this context.

Contribution from Curtin students, staff, alumni and local community is really important to the outcomes of this exercise. It's an incredibly exciting opportunity for the Curtin community to influence WA's first innovation precinct and be part of building the future that we will all enjoy.

Please take a moment to provide feedback on the proposed theme via the online survey - within which you'll be able to 'vote' for your preference and make original suggestions.

Please note that all suggestions will be collected and considered for subsequent naming opportunities should they not be feasible or successful for roads. We look forward to hearing from you and encourage you to share the survey link with anyone who may be interested.
