We’re very proud to announce that Curtin’s premises, the Old Perth Boys’ School on St Georges Terrace, has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star – Interiors rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

GBCA assessed sustainability outcomes of interior fit-outs across nine categories including management, indoor environment quality, energy, transport, water, minerals, land use and ecology, emissions, and innovation.

Significant outcomes for our St Georges Terrace premises include a 55 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, an 80 per cent reduction in lighting, and a 35 per cent reduction in water.

The rating represents world leadership in sustainability - Curtin is the first university in Australia to receive a 6 Star Green Star – Interiors rating.

GBCA’s CEO, Romilly Madew congratulated our achievement and Curtin’s ongoing commitment to transforming as a sustainable campus, commenting:

With Curtin also being the first university in Australia to achieve a Green Star - Communities rating for its Greater Curtin Master Plan, this latest certification reinforces a long-term commitment to creating places that are good for both people and the planet.

We are continually striving to be a leader in sustainability, working with leading sustainability stakeholders and consultants to reduce environmental impact whilst ensuring all new buildings and retrofitting of existing buildings adhere to the Curtin University Sustainable Building Design Guidelines.
