B314 Computer Science Laboratory Upgrades

Completed in Semester 2, 2022, the B314 Computer Laboratory Upgrades project has refurbished three key learning spaces within the building. These upgrades have delivered contemporary, fit-for-purpose computer laboratory facilities for use by the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Project Features

Room 113 – Large Capacity Computer Lab (LCCL)

  • Multi-use layout accommodating either a large class of 96 students or 4 smaller classes of 24 students.
  • New lobby space and dwell area
  • New exterior canopy structure to improve wayfinding
  • Suspended acoustic fins to enhance acoustic quality of spaces
  • Low glare LED lighting fixtures

Room 217 – Cyber Security Computer Lab

  • Unique design identity to reflect cyber security lesson activities with the class defined into two teams of 15 students, identified by changeable colour LEDs in each space.

Room 224 – General Purpose Lab

  • Review of layout to accommodate a class size of 30 students.
  • Interior refresh to improve student experience

General

  • New mechanical services and air handling unit, along with upgrades to both AV and Electrical services

Project Benefits

Through the creation of purpose-built facilities specific to the pedagogical needs of computer sciences, the project has improved the student experience along with creating a centralised location for the school’s activities. By modernising the existing spaces and improving flexibility through the various functionalities of the LCCL, the upgrades have allowed for the adaptation of teaching methodologies to changing needs over time and accommodates for forecasted student growth.
