Dome and Stadium Precinct

  • March 2025 Commenced

  • April Completed

The Dome and Stadium Precinct redevelopment has transformed one of Curtin’s most recognisable landmarks into a vibrant and welcoming campus destination. Centred around the iconic Curtin Geodesic Dome, the project delivers a flexible, multi-purpose pavilion and enhanced public realm that supports events, social connection and everyday campus life.

Designed to balance heritage with contemporary use, the revitalised precinct strengthens the connection between the Dome and Stadium while creating an active and inclusive space for students, staff and visitors.

Where community comes together

Located at the heart of Curtin’s Perth Campus, the Dome and Stadium Precinct brings new life to the surrounding landscape through improved accessibility, integrated design and activated outdoor spaces.

The Dome, originally designed by Harler Dunne Group Architects in the 1970s, has been carefully reimagined to support a range of uses while maintaining its distinctive architectural identity. The surrounding precinct has been enhanced to create a cohesive and inviting environment that encourages gathering, movement and activity throughout the day and into the evening.

Project features

  • A reimagined Dome, now functioning as a flexible multi-purpose pavilion for events and everyday use
  • Enhanced public realm with new footpaths, seating areas and improved accessibility
  • Upgraded Stadium northern entry featuring dynamic lighting and a contemporary steel canopy
  • Integrated design elements that respond to and complement the Dome’s unique geometric structure
  • Landscaped outdoor areas that support informal use, social interaction and campus activation

Songlines & place

The Dome and Stadium Precinct sits within a culturally significant area where the Whadjuk Noongar Songlines ‘Kujal Kela’ (Twin Dolphin) and ‘Djiridji’ (Zamia) intersect.

The redevelopment acknowledges and respects this connection to Country, reinforcing the importance of place through design and spatial experience. The precinct contributes to Curtin’s broader commitment to embedding cultural narratives within the campus environment.

Project benefits

The Dome and Stadium Precinct enhances the campus experience by creating a dynamic, inclusive and highly usable space that supports a wide range of activities.

Its flexible design encourages social connection, supports events and improves everyday amenity, while celebrating the Dome’s architectural and cultural significance. The precinct now serves as a key destination within Curtin, contributing to a more connected and engaging campus environment for years to come.
