FIRST Lego League WA

Creative Quarter will come alive on Saturday, 13 December for the FIRST Lego League (FLL) WA national district finals!

Cheer on local students as they put months of research, coding and engineering skills to use and go head-to-head in a friendly robotics challenge.

Then dive into the fun yourself – play video games, catch live music, grab a bite from the food trucks and explore plenty of family-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained. Swing by anytime 7:30am to 5pm and soak up the energy!

What is FIRST Lego League?

FIRST Lego League (FLL) is a Curtin-led STEM program that introduces students, aged 9-16, to real-world problem-solving through teamwork, creativity and LEGO robotics.

Each year during terms 3 and 4 teams build and program robots to navigate missions in a friendly competition setting. The program is designed to spark curiosity and confidence in young innovators, with the WA national district finals held at Curtin University each year!

Can you tell me about this year’s theme, UNEARTHED?

This year’s theme, UNEARTHED, explores how the past can spark future innovation! Central to the competition is the Innovation Project – a chance for students to pinpoint a real issue within the theme and use new and exciting STEM to propose an innovative solution. Excitingly, we’ve already seen teams roll out exciting concepts – from machines designed to gently extract artefacts with minimal damage to interactive signage and a website designed to share knowledge about culturally significant Indigenous sites.
