Our Projects

Main Street

Project overview

As part of our vision for greater connections and incidental learning at our Perth campus, Curtin saw the need for a vibrant and public realm at the heart of the northern sector of the future Greater Curtin. It is to be a shared space giving greater priority to pedestrian and bicycle access in an attractive, landscaped environment that exists not just for staff and students, but for the wider community engaging with Greater Curtin.

Project delivery

Making Curtin a greater place means we have to undertake works that may be disruptive to our community. Construction of the main street is scheduled to begin in November 2015 after the exam period. The works will be continue for some 16 months and are anticipated to be complete by early 2017.

Project features

Three roads come together as part of the Main Street Project:

  • Road 1: the key east/west transport link between Hayman Road and Kent Street
  • Road 2: Main Street itself
  • Road 3: slow-speed lane, linking Road 2 to the Campus Corso (via Curtin Business School)

The plan below shows the extent of works located in the northern section of the Perth campus. Students, staff and visitors to campus will experience delays and should plan their journey accordingly. Regular project updates will be provided to assist in planning your trip to Curtin during the construction period.

Project benefits

This Main Street project becomes the heart of the Greater Curtin Master Plan in a physical sense — it will connect the community with a vibrant open space; encourage walking and cycling; and form the basis for attractive landscaping and deliver key services and infrastructure for future major developments and projects.
