Banksia Menziesii is my interpretation of the Firewood Banksia. This species is a Western Australian native and is commonly found in natural woodlands in the area, and I even found it growing on campus grounds. I choose this species based on the local significance and also because I found the colours to fit well onto the particular building and surrounding area. I liked the texture and colours of the concrete wall, so I choose to use subdued colours and make the wall part of the artwork by leaving a lot of negative space.
